Meet Chris-Ann

“I not only inspire our children and young people to develop into well-rounded and confident individuals, but I am also inspired by the children and young people I support and look after.”

Meet Chris-Ann

Child Residential Social Care Worker, Nottingham City

My name is Chris-Ann, I live in Nottingham, I am 25 years of age and I began my career as a Child Residential Social Care Worker at the age of 22.

In my early teens, I aspired to become a midwife, then, in my late teens, I aspired to become a teacher. With this, I was a qualified teaching assistant by the age of 17 through an apprenticeship and then began my studies at Nottingham Trent University in 2017.

In my final year of university, I developed a passion for a career in child protection. Travelling to Sri Lanka for placement in 2019 and teaching English as a second language to children and young people with special educational needs, I knew I wanted to change my career path as my interest in working with children and their families grew.

Now, I have been working full time for Nottingham City Council as a Child Residential Social Care Worker for almost 4 years. Throughout my daily practice, I not only inspire our children and young people to develop into well-rounded and confident individuals, but I am also inspired by the children and young people I support and look after.

The skills I use most within my career are my communication skills, listening to the children and young people’s wishes and feelings and being an active part of the team, whilst also being empowered to voice my opinions within a professional environment.

I love working in Children’s Residential as each day is unique and equally rewarding.
