Hello to all future ambassadors for children. I am proud to say that I started my career working in children’s residential homes over 20 years ago. This not only provided an opportunity to make a direct and positive impact on the lives of vulnerable children, but experience gained enabled me to progress into a range of roles which laid the ground for my current post of Director. From working directly within a children’s home to being responsible for all of Derby’s homes and wider services for children, it has been a rewarding journey.

I was supported to develop a huge range of skills to work directly with children, helping them develop essential life skills, offering emotional support and creating a safe and nurturing environment. My time in children’s residential homes enabled collaboration with a dedicated team of professionals, including social workers, therapists, and educators. The sense of community and shared commitment to improving the lives of children created an uplifting work environment, and I would whole heartedly recommend you take the next step and apply for a career for life.
