Here in the East Midlands, we’re on a mission to recruit caring, ambitious individuals to help us provide outstanding residential care for our children and young people that currently can’t live with their families.
Make a difference in children's residential care
Like all children and young people, those in our care face challenges every day. Some that we care for have emotional and behavioural difficulties or display behaviours that challenge.
Our focus is to recruit colleagues who can help us meet their needs through a person-centred approach, working to promote positive attitudes based on improving self-worth and self-respect and helping them excel in all aspects of their lives.
Life-changing people
Meet Suanne
Suanne started her career working in children's residential homes over 20 years ago. Her experience enabled her to progress through a range of rewarding roles all the way up to Director of Early Help & Children’s Social Care at Derby City Council.
Meet Daniel
As a child, Daniel lived in a care home, and when he saw how the staff supported and encouraged each other, he was inspired to study Health & Social Care himself. Now, he has started a profoundly fulfilling career as a Residential Support Worker, making a real difference in young people's lives.
Meet Chris
Chris was inspired to work in children's homes when a friend suggested he had exactly the right personality for the job. He began working in Leicester's residential care homes in 2020 and highly recommends such a role for anyone who has a passion for supporting young people.
Meet Katie
Katie began working in children's residential care in 2011 as a relief worker. She progressed through her career to become Homes Manager in 2021 and is now Service Lead. She highly recommends a career in residential care; seeing a child make even the smallest steps towards a positive future makes it so worthwhile.
Joining forces to keep our children closer to home.
Just like adult social care, children’s social care is seeing challenges with recruiting essential staff to help run and manage children’s homes. This means that Local Authorities are forced to place children in private homes, which are often more expensive and can be miles away from a child or young person’s home town. Being so far away from friends, family and familiar places can be detrimental to their well-being, making an already tough situation even more difficult.
To help tackle this challenge, the ten East Midlands Local Authorities have joined forces to encourage more people to pursue a career in children’s residential care. For further information about the campaign, email Khalid Mahmood on info@childrensresidentialworkforceeastmidlands.org.uk.
